Sydenham 8k and Toronto Scotiabank

There was a bit more club racing action this past weekend.
A group of Harriers and friends went to the Frontenac Forest area for a destination event and competed in the annual Sydenham 8K Trail Race. (sounds like what the Cambridge Mill Race will soon become - out and back on a rail trail)
There were 150 competitors and Lisa Leskien was 19th overall and second female with a time of 33:50. She wasn't far behind Pedro Fernandes who was 15th in 33:07. Steve Mota took 25th spot with a 34:44 clocking. Ray Vandenberg was 47th in 39:03 and Lisa's sister Holly was 78th in 48:00.
At the Toronto Scotiabank Marathon on Sunday, Douglas Rivera placed 1,227th in the field of 3,700 and recorded a time of 3 hours and 48 minutes even. A couple of other locals had impressive results with Mitch Free setting a personal best time of 2:34:58 in finishing 34th, and Rob Brouillette taking 43rd spot in 2:38. Mitch was 2nd master overall and 1st Canadian master finisher. And one more Harrier to report on. Clair Bartleman competed in the Toronto Scotiabank half marathon, along with 11,689 others. She placed 3,848th. She was 1,291st among the 5,877 women. Her gun time was 2:14:35, but her chip time got her under 2 hours, at 1:58:19. Most in the running community will know that Cameron Levins from B.C. broke Jerome Drayton's 43 year old Canadian marathon record in Toronto with a time of 2:09:25.

Katherine Willis competed in the Pinery Provincial Park 5K and was 19th in the field of 130. She won the 50-59 age category with a time of 25:38 which was a new-hip personal best.
Rob Brouillette was among the 170 runners in the Waterloo Fall Classic 10K on Sunday. He placed 2nd with a time of 32:44.
The Waterloo Fall Classic 5K race had no Harriers, but proved that it is one of the fastest 5K courses around. At the fast end of the field, there were 4 runners under 15 minutes (the winner ran 14:34) and the next 8 runners broke 16 minutes. The first 3 women were under 17 minutes (the winner ran 16:24) and 15 females in total broke 20 minutes.
Remember - if I missed your result somewhere, let me know.

Coming up next Sunday is the Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Fran Muller, Nelson Coelho & Sharon Rutledge
Some very good results from local runners in a few races today.
Out in Vancouver, Rob Brouillette was third overall in the BMO Vancouver Marathon, running 2:33:18. There were just under 5,000 finishers.
Down in Mississauga, Sharon Rutledge was the fastest of the Harriers trio in the Half Marathon, running 1:55:11 compared to Nelson Coelho and Fran Muller who came in at 1:55:44.
Mitch Free was the victim of a marshaling mistake while running 3rd in the closing stages of the marathon and was forced to run an extra 2 km. Not what anyone wants at the end of that event. He ended up 5th overall with a time of 2:45:28.
