Who We Are:
We are a running club located in Cambridge Ontario. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 pm and Saturdays at 8 am at Victoria Park in Cambridge. We also meet for a lighter work out on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:45 pm also at Victoria Park. Below is a summary of who we are and what we do:
We are a diverse group of adult runners of all abilities. We have serious competitors who race every weekend and we have recreational runners who have never entered a race in their life. What you choose to get out of your club is up to you!
Our typical Monday and Wednesday night workouts consist of a 15-20 minute warm up (about 3 km) followed by 20-40 minutes of interval training (fartleks, tempo runs, hill repeats, etc. equalling about 4-5 km) and then finished off with a 15 minute cool down (about 2 km). Don't worry if you don't know what a fartlek is or break out into laughter everytime you hear someone say that word, if you run 10 km in about 60 minutes or less then Monday and Wednesday night workouts are for you.
The Tuesdays and Thursday workouts, starting at Victoria Park at 6:45 p.m., are geared toward igniting the passion for running in beginners, and then leading those new runners to heights which they might never have imagined for themselves! The atmosphere among the group is very supportive and inclusive, and the banter and high spirits never fail to make even a hard workout fun. Veteran runner, Gary Cassel’s leadership is focused on designing workouts for the individual abilities of each runner and on building confidence in one and all. Typically, each evening is approximately one hour of warm up, workout and cooldown. Don’t be afraid to come out even if you have never tried running before-- new runners are thoroughly welcome anytime! If you have any questions about the Tuesdays and Thursday group, please call Brenda at 623-1527.
On Saturdays we meet at Victoria Park for our longer, slower runs. These runs vary from 11km up to 35 km depending on what group members are training for. Members run these runs at anywhere from 11 minute mile to 8 minute mile pace depending on their abilities and goals. Most Saturdays there are a few people running around10 km, others running around 15 km, and a few twisted souls doing more! After each Saturday run we get together downtown at Melville Cafe for a coffee or hot chocolate; some members make it known that they enjoy this part of the long runs the best.
