Mike Hammond was among the thousands of competitors in the Boston Marathon. He had been suffering from the pain of shin splints for a couple of months, missing a lot of training, so treated the race as something less than serious. Nevertheless, he completed the 42.2 kilometres in 3:24:39 and sent this photo as "proof".

Dianne McBride recently had an awesome race experience and tells us about it below.
I've written about my recent adventures in Israel and Jordan below. The highway hugging the coast of the Dead Sea to Aqaba, which is on the Red Sea is amazing at any time. The jagged coastline and the staggering mountains make for stunning views. I had the pleasure (and agony) of running my share of 242 kms in the recent http://dead2red.com/running/ freestyle marathon in Jordan Mar 14 &15. Our trusty team of 10 people, the 'Sheikh Jarrah' (named after the Jerusalem neighborhood where many of them live) had the challenge of each completing a half marathon. Rotating members through the night, running in the desert, we pulled off a 14th place finish. Two vans shuttled runners along the way. Our team, as it turned out, earned the youngest male as well as the oldest female to complete. Special kudos goes out to my sister Kelly, our driver, who suggested I give this crazy idea a try. Unforgettable and highly recommended! |
