The overall winner was Daniel Fournier from Waterloo who ran 16:27 to beat the field of 134 runners. Rob Brouillette was second in 16:42. The top female was Mary Catherine Stewart of Guelph, running 19:50 and Lisa Leskien was one spot behind her in 9th overall with a time of 19:56. Gary Cassel junior placed 14th and first in the 40-49 category in 21:15 (despite a stop-and-walk section due to an injury), while Olivia Grafinger was 15th in 21:35. She was 2nd in the 20-29 category. George Aitkin posted a time of 24:25 in 32nd place to win the 60-69 age category, while Katherine Willis in 44th had a time of 26:38. She took 2nd in the 50-59 age category. Brenda Cassel was 100th overall with a 36:15 clocking and was 3rd in the women's 60-69 category.

183 runners competed and Gary Cassel junior was the top Harrier, finishing 12th in 20:22 to win the 45-49 age category. Sharon Rutledge was 44th in 24:04, placing 3rd in the 30-34 category. We had two silver medalists in the 65-69 category with Geoff Whitehead on the men's side in 27:02, and Brenda Cassel for the women in 37:48.
Lots of runners in the Scotiabank Toronto Marathon events, but only one from our 'group' as far as I could see. Rob Brouillette placed 23rd out of 9,900 runners in the half marathon, running 1 hour 14 minutes and 24 seconds.
The previous weekend, Anita and Scott Cressman ran at the Thornbury Rotary Apple Races on a hilly course on a very windy day.. Scott placed 7th in the 10 km with a time of 47:06, while Anita was 26th in the half marathon with a time of 1:57:11. Our Sydenham Trail Race crew made it a weekend trip to the venue north of Kingston and competed on a fast rail trail course with some very fast competition. Lisa Leskien was 14th overall, posting a time of 32:07. She was first in the 30-39 category. Steve Mota crossed the line 28th with a time of 35:47 followed by Jenn Kellett, 51st in 40:02 and Sean Kellett, 58th in 41:11. The top male covered the distance in 26:24 and the top female sped the distance in 27:05. Rob Brouillette placed 2nd in the Fall Classic Oktoberfast 5 km Road Race in Waterloo on Sunday. he recorded a pb of 15:23 in the field of 400 runners. John McLean of Cambridge was 6th, and first in the 35-39 category, crossing the line in 15:59.
George Sutton was 459th in the Niagara Half Marathon the same day, running 2:09:28. Mike Hammond was missed back in September when he ran the Harvest Half Marathon in St. Clements, finishing 19th overall in 1:40:14. More club results to report from the past week or so.
Gary Cassel junior competed in the Chase The Coyote Trail Race near Orangeville, placing 8th out of 190 runners on the technical 12 km route. His time was 59:54. At the Run The Edge Races in Tobermory, we had several Harriers competing in two events. In the 5 km Flower Pot Island race, Lisa Leskien was 2nd female in 28:30 and Sharon Rutledge was 5th with a 35:52 clocking. Greg Leskien was the third place male in 25:34 (behind 2nd place Ray Vandenberg who ran 25:29), and Nelson Coelho was 6th in 35:17. In the trail marathon event, Calvin Douma of Cambridge was 3rd in 4:52:46. Paula Dawson was 9th in the masters division in the trail half marathon, running 3:14:37. Katherine Willis was 4th female in the Rondeau Park Pumpkin Run 5 km last weekend. She covered the route in 27:00 and was 1st in the 50-59 age category. A few Harriers were part of this year's Run For The Toad Trail Race experience at Pinehurst Lake. After a week of stifling heat, then a day of cold wind and rain, Saturday dawned clear and cool. Mitch Free placed 2nd in the 25 km race, running 1 hour and 39 minutes while Lisa Leskien took 4th place overall (and first female), clocking 1:51:20. Mark Taylor crossed the line in 2:53:36 and Sharon Rutledge finished in 2:38:30. Rob Brouillette was 16th in the Canadian 5 km road race championships in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, running 15:45. He was 10th last weekend in the Oasis Zoo 10 km in Toronto with a time of 33:31. There were 2600 runners in that one.
Heather Chan was 70th on the weekend in the field of 122 in the Harvest Half Marathon, part of the Waterloo Running Series. Her time was 2:10:51 and she took 2nd in the women's 45-49 age category. At last week's Mountain Equipment Co-Op 10 km trail race at Shades Mills, Gary Cassel junior was 4th overall in 48:13. Hilly no doubt. |
