Last month, Mike Hammond was among the tens of thousands in the London (England) Marathon and posted a time of 3:02. Turns out he had covid at the time as well, hence the walking breaks he had to take. Steve Mota ran a 1:42 half marathon in the Victoria Half out on the west coast a couple of weeks ago. The scenic route was run in perfect warm and sunny weather.
At the Waterloo Fall Classic 5K this past Sunday, Jacob Zerko ran another fast one, finishing 4th overall in 15:49. Rob Brouillette was 13th in 17:03 and Sevanne Ghazarian was the 4th place female with a time of 17:24. 250 runners were competing. Heather Chan ran and finished her first marathon last weekend, running 5:18:18 in Toronto. Douglas Rivera also ran in Toronto, finishing in 3:42:40. In the accompanying 5KM event, Jacob Zerko finished tenth overall with PB OF 15:46. And Margaux Yvernogau's recent marathon was missed. She ran 3:25:08 in Montreal. Last weekend was the Summer Night 5K Road Race in London and we had two Harriers competing. Jacob Zerko placed 4th overall in 16:23 and Dave Johnson ran 27:15. Both were age category winners.

In the 25 km, Steve Mota was 7th out of 55 runners in 2:18:04. Mitch Free took the win in 1:43:27 A few club results keep trickling in. Jacob Zerko continued his strong showing last weekend, placing second out of 567 runners in the Moon In June 5K in Burlington. It was his first 5K and his time was 16:14. Recently, Rob Brouillette placed 1st in the Sulphur Springs 20K Trail Race in Ancaster, posting a time of 1:16. Heather Chan competed in the Huron Shore Half Marathon up in Southampton, finishing in 2:15 and first in her age category. And here's a report from Steve Mota about his most recent race: Doug Rivera and Steve Mota joined Pedro Fernandes and his Bruce Trail Mix relay team at this year's edition of the Cabot Trail Relay. The Cabot Trail Relay Race is a 300Km race, which starts in Baddeck, NS and does a counterclockwise loop of Cape Breton Island (Cabot trail), returning to Baddeck to finish. There are 17 legs or individual races, each vary in distance between 12 to 20km. There are some very challenging hill climbs on some of these legs! Pedro had been going to this race for 20 years, and just completed all 17 legs this year. Doug and I were "newbies" on the 13 member team. One of our team members had to cancel the trip due to getting Covid, and Doug and I were tasked with doing two legs each, yikes! All went well and the camaraderie, excellent seafood and amazing scenery made it an epic trip, highly recommended. Our team finished 34th out of 63 teams overall Well, another successful result for Jacob Zerko last weekend, this time at the 63rd annual Alviston to Watford (two small Ontario towns) 10 mile road race. Into a headwind the whole way, Jacob stuck with Lucas Salazer-Reid for 6K before losing touch. The two of them missed a directional arrow causing them to run 500 metres extra, but they still placed 1st and 2nd in 1:00:12 for Lucas and 1:00:35 for Jacob.
Prior to that, Jacob won the annual Burlington Runners Good Friday 10K, running the course in 34:19 to win by one minute; as well as winning the Ed Whitlock Half Marathon in Waterloo with a personal best time of 1:17:25, giving him a 10 minute margin of victory over the field of 210 runners. What a season our Harrier is having! |
