Jacob Zerko picked a big race to run his second fastest 5K race to date. He placed 7th in the field of 2100 runners at Sunday's Toronto Waterfront Marathon 5K and crossed the finish line in 15 minutes and 48 seconds. Hamilton's Ryan Tyrell won the race in 14:35. Also in Toronto, Doug Rivera posted a time of 3:43:25 in the full marathon. Rob Brouillette paced the Canadian Women Marathon Champion.
At last week's Bank Of America Chicago Marathon, Mike Hammond came agonizingly close to breaking the three hour barrier, finishing in 3:00:30. He was 3,374th out of the 48,000 competitors.
Next Sunday morning, October 22 will see the Run Waterloo Fall Classic 5K take place here, in Riverside Park, on a very flat course. If it hasn't sold out yet, it will soon, so check it out.
